Keeping a clean bedroom can be pretty tough. After all, the bedroom is often times the dumping grounds for all types of clothes, gadgets, junk, and countless other items.
However, there’s a quick routine you can do each week, along with some daily things, to help. Follow these steps at least once a week to maintain a clean, organized room.
Step 1: Declutter
Clutter is definitely the most significant, but also the easiest mess to clean up. So, it’s only right to start with it.
Go through your room and place any misplaced items where they belong. Pick up the clothes off the floor and put up all the clothes in that one corner or chair that are worn, but not dirty. Tidy up your nightstand, clean up any dishes, clean up any trash, and place any miscellaneous items where they belong. To make your room look super tidy, try to hide all nightstand and other miscellaneous items in a drawer or storage box.
Daily Challenge: A super easy way to keep your room as tidy as possible is to declutter every day. At the end of day, go ahead and put all clothes and personal items where they belong. Since you won’t have a buildup of clutter, it shouldn’t take long at all!
Step 2: Surface Cleaning
After you’ve gotten rid of the clutter and returned all items to their designated spot, it’s time to start actually cleaning. If you haven’t heard this saying before, the best approach is to clean from top to bottom. Dust and trash naturally fall downwards, so it’s a no-brainer to tackle the higher objects, like lighting fixtures, first, and work your way down.
- Start by dusting your ceiling with a duster or broom. Make sure all spider webs and dust is taken care of, especially in the corners. Then, take a duster or damp microfiber cloth and run it over your lighting fixtures and vents.
- Next, run a duster over your walls, any hanging pictures, and door frames.
- Spray down your dressers, nightstands, and other surfaces with this natural all-purpose cleaner we talked about in another blog, and wipe them down with a microfiber cloth.
- Then, use the same all-purpose cleaner to clean your mirrors and windows.
Step 3: Deep Cleaning
Once the previous steps are done, it’s time to deep clean a little bit.
- Take any mats and rugs outside and shake them out to rid them of some dirt or dust.
- Bring them back inside and thoroughly vacuum them. To deodorize and more deeply clean your rugs or mats, sprinkle a little baking soda over them before you vacuum.
- Next, do the same with your bedroom floor. For non-carpeted floors, start by sweeping them before going over them with a mop or Swifer. For carpeted floors, sprinkle baking soda over the carpet, and vacuum thoroughly.
