How to Naturally Clean Your Bathroom

Our bathrooms are breeding grounds for all types of bacteria! Many studies have shown that bacteria can be found throughout your entire bathroom, even as far as six feet away from your toilets and sinks. So, it’s super important that we regularly clean our bathrooms!

When doing so, don’t pollute your air and put you and your family’s health at risk by using toxic chemicals! Follow this easy bathroom cleaning guide instead; it will leave everything thoroughly cleaned without harsh chemicals! Here’s a complete guide on how to naturally clean your bathroom.

Toilet

Let’s start with the worst part, shall we? All you need to naturally and effectively clean your toilet is baking soda and white vinegar.

Start by sprinkling some baking soda around the inside of the toilet until it’s pretty well coated. Then, pour around a cup, or more if your toilet is extra dirty, into the water. Use a reusable toilet brush, or whatever you use to clean your toilets, to scrub the entirety of your toilet. Make sure that the vinegar water gets on every part of the toilet’s interior. Doing so will work wonders on your toilet, removing any stains and lingering smells. The vinegar will disinfect your toilet and dissolve any dirt and grime, while the baking soda will also help to remove any dirt and grime and eliminate any smells. Once you’ve finished scrubbing, flush your toilet, and you’re all set! If the exterior of your toilet needs cleaning too, you can also use the vinegar/water mixture to do so or even hydrogen peroxide.

How Often Should I Clean My Toilet? At least once a week.

Shower/Tub

To make your shower and tub sparkling clean naturally, all you need is some white vinegar and water. If your shower/tub has grout or is extra stained, you’ll need some baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.

For an everyday cleaning, mix a 50/50 white vinegar/water solution together. Use this to spray down the entirety of your shower or tub, including any wall tile, and scrub with a microfiber cloth or the tough side of a sponge until clean. This will eliminate any soap scum and bacteria.

For a deeper cleaning, make a baking soda paste by mixing baking soda and white vinegar. Use this paste on your entire shower or tub and scrub thoroughly. This will really target and eliminate any tough stains and ensure that all that gunk and soap scum is dissolved.

For grout, you’ll need baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Start by sprinkling the baking soda along the floor and spray with some hydrogen peroxide. Let this mixture sit for a few minutes, and then scrub the grout with a gentle toothbrush. Once you’re done, just rinse it with some water!

How Often Should I Clean My Shower and Tub? About once a week. If your shower and tub are separate, and you rarely use your bathtub, aim to clean it about every two weeks.

Sink

To naturally clean your sink, all you need is a lemon, baking soda, and white vinegar. Slice the lemon in half and get ready to clean!

For a basic cleaning, sprinkle some baking soda over the cut side of the lemon and use it to clean your sink. This will fight against the bacteria and slow any future growth of it, as well as leave your sink shiny and clean! You can even use the lemon rind to clean your sink faucet; it’ll help make it shine. You can also use a white vinegar and water solution, too, by spraying down your sink and wiping it clean. Once you’re done cleaning, thoroughly rinse your sink.

For a natural deep sink cleaning, dump some baking soda all over your sink. Sprinkle some salt in there too, and a few drops of lemon or tea tree oil. Let this mixture sit for at least five minutes, then thoroughly scrub all around the sink to cleanse it. This will remove any grease, dirt, and stains. Once that’s done, finish by rinsing your sink.

How Often Should I Clean My Sink? It’s recommended that you actually clean your sink every day! This is because your sink is exposed to lots of bacteria after you wash your hands each day. So, aim for every day, or at least every other day!

Counters

Your counters are definitely one of the easiest things to clean in your bathroom. All you need is some vinegar and water!

Just like the mixture used to clean your shower or tub, combine equal parts of white vinegar and water. Spray down your counters with this solution and thoroughly wipe them down. You might want to spray a little extra on any stains or dirt buildup. If you have a microfiber cloth, put it to use! If not, a regular sponge or rag will work just fine.

How Often Should I Clean My Counters? Just like your sink, aim to wipe them down everyday! If not, at least try to every other day. A good rule of thumb is that everytime you clean your sink, go ahead and clean your bathroom counters, too.

Mirrors

This might sound to start a bit repetitive, but all you need to naturally clean your mirrors is, you guessed it: white vinegar and water!

Grab your 50/50 white vinegar/water solution and two microfiber cloths (if you have some, one for cleaning and one for drying) or old cut-up t-shirts. Simply spray your mirror with the solution and wipe down with your microfiber cloth or t-shirt. Then, use the dry cloth or t-shirt to dry your mirror. You’ll have a sparkly clean mirror without the use of chemicals!

How Often Should I Clean My Mirrors? As often or as little as you need to! We suggest maybe once a week.

Bathroom Floors

Now that everything else is clean, it’s time to clean your bathroom floors! Grab your broom, white vinegar, an essential oil of your choice, and natural, liquid dish soap.

To clean your bathroom floors, start by combining about 2 cups of warm water with ½ cup of white vinegar, a little bit of your natural dish soap, and 5-10 drops of an essential oil, like lemon or peppermint oil. First, thoroughly sweep your floor to get up all the dust and loose dirt. Then, spray down your floor with the solution you just made and use a mop or microfiber towel to wipe down and disinfect your floor. This will eliminate any stains, disinfect your floor, and leave it sparkly clean and smelling wonderful!

How Often Should I Clean My Bathroom Floors? About once a week.

Air Freshening

After you’ve finished cleaning your bathroom, the final step is to make sure it smells nice. Avoid the products like Febreeze and Lysol, which just release tons of chemicals into your home that can be pretty harmful, especially to children. Instead, try the following.

  • Use an essential oil diffuser. Drop a few drops of lemon, lavender, tea tree oil, or any other nice-smelling oil into your diffuser, and let the magic happen!
  • Create a DIY natural air freshener. There are plenty online to choose from! A simple one is to combine 15 drops of an essential oil with a ½ cup of white vinegar and 1½ cups of water into a bottle, and spray into your bathroom when needed.
