How to Naturally Clean Your Kitchen

Ready to give your kitchen some love with a good, wholesome cleaning? These natural solutions will not only make your kitchen sparkly clean, but they will also save you and your family from being exposed to toxic chemicals! Let’s get started!

How to Naturally Clean Your Kitchen

1. Your Stove

Vinegar is great for cleaning your stove. Since it’s made from acetic acid, it’s powerful enough to remove all the dirt, grease, and bacteria that’s built up on your stove top. So, simply combine equal parts of white distilled vinegar with water in a spray bottle. If you want to lessen the vinegar smell, add 10 drops of lemon, lavender, or any other nice-smelling oil to the mixture. We recommend lemon, as it will help clean and shine your stove, too. Spray down your stovetop and let the vinegar mixture sit for a little while. Then, use a sponge to scrub/wipe down your stovetop.

2. Your Oven

Keeping your oven clean is tough, we know. But this natural solution will at least make it easier to clean! All you need to do to naturally clean your oven is create a baking soda paste. You can do this by combining baking soda, water, and a few drops of lemon or tea tree oil, if you’d like. Baking soda is a gentle abrasive, so it can easily remove stains, dirt, and grease. Dip either a scrub brush or the tougher side of a sponge into the paste and start scrubbing! Once you’re done, wipe your oven down with a wet cloth or paper towel.

3. Your Microwave

A super easy and quick way to naturally clean your microwave is with lemons! Simply place a few slices of lemon in a bowl of water and microwave the concoction on high for a few minutes. While the lemon will deodorize your microwave, the steam will loosen the dirt and remnants of food. Afterwards, wipe your microwave down with a wet cloth or paper towel. If there are still bits of food remaining, you can use the vinegar mixture mentioned above to specifically target and remove any remaining stains.

4. Your Sink

Before you make your sink sparkly clean, check to see if your drain seems a bit clogged. If the water takes a while to drain, you might need to use the following hack! To unclog a drain naturally, just pour a half cup of baking soda into it, followed by a quarter cup of vinegar and a small pot of boiling water. This should clear everything right up!

Once your sink is unclogged, it’s time to clean it! For a basic cleaning, all you need is a lemon! Cut it in half, add some baking soda over it if you’d like (this adds a little more cleaning strength to it), and use it to clean your sink. You’ll be surprised how effective this is! You can even use the rine to clean your sink faucet and make it sparkle. If your sink needs a deeper cleaning, pour some baking soda, salt, and a few drops of lemon or tea tree oil all over it. Let these products sit for at least five minutes, then use the tougher side of a sponge or a scrub brush to remove the grease and dirt.

5. Your Refrigerator

Vinegar is great for everything, but it’s especially great for stainless steel appliances. Regardless if your refrigerator is made of stainless steel or not, use the same vinegar solution mentioned above to thoroughly clean the outside of your fridge. Once you’ve cleaned the outside, it’s time to tackle the inside! Put all your food in a cooler and combine 1 part baking soda with 5 parts water. The baking soda will not only remove any dirt and fight against bacteria, but it will also deodorize your fridge. Grab a cleaning cloth and toothbrush and use this solution to thoroughly clean the interior of your fridge. Be sure to work from top to bottom so that nothing drips down onto surfaces you’ve already cleaned. Once you’ve cleaned everything, wipe everything down with water and a clean cloth.

6. Your Countertops

To cleanse and make your countertops shine, we suggest the same simple ingredient used to clean your sink: a half of a lemon! If your countertops are a bit greasy, definitely add some baking soda over the cut side of the lemon, and use it to clean your countertops. Once you’re done, use warm water and a cloth to wipe your countertops down once more.

7. Tiled Surfaces

Baking soda and lemon is also great to clean tiled surfaces. While the baking soda is a gentle abrasive that can remove the stains and dirt caught in the grout, the acid in lemon can help remove the grime. Lemon is also known as a natural bleach, because it helps fight against bacteria and leaves a nice shine afterwards. So, just like your countertops and sink, you can clean your tiled surfaces by cutting a lemon and half and placing some baking soda over the cut side. Then use it as a sponge, rubbing it across the tiles and grout. If the grout still looks a little dirty, dip a toothbrush in lemon juice and use it to scrub any problem areas. This will leave your tiled surfaces both sparkly clean and smelling wonderful.

8. Wood Polish

Your beautiful wooden surfaces or kitchen cabinets need a regular polishing to stay beautiful over time. However, you don’t have to use that toxic commercial wood cleaner! To naturally clean your wood surfaces, mix one part lemon juice with two parts of olive oil in a spray bottle. Thoroughly shake up the mixture and then spray it onto your wooden surfaces. Finish polishing them by using a clean cloth to rub the mixture into the wood.
